I’m starting a blog to get some of my thoughts out in a nice healthy manner. I really enjoy writing, and historically a lot of my output has been through goofing/venting on social media. I’m finding that while it feels nice to arrange my thoughts on the page and publish them to the world, sites like Facebook and Twitter are bad platforms because once I post them, I get caught up in the anxious feedback loop of wondering what likes, comments, shares, etc it will garner. This seems so much better, because basically no one interacts or “engages” with blogs at all. Well, I’m sure some do. But that’s not the point. The point is just to have your thoughts accessible on a glossy themed webpage, archived by date and indexed by subject matter, such that someone, should they be interested in your thoughts enough to care, could ostensibly read it. But probably they won’t. And that’s just fine! That’s more my style. So we’ll see how it goes. Some of these will probably be word vomit. I mean, this first one kind of is already. But it should be a fun new outlet. I’ve got a lot of google docs worth of random thoughts I’ve wanted to get down quickly that I might extrapolate into posts as well.
As for subject matter, I’m predicting the breakdown will be something like this:
- 25% thoughts on my creative process making music.
- 10% more technical music theory/production thoughts.
- 15% meditations on mindfulness and living the good life.
- 15% observations about productivity and miscellaneous life-hacks I pick up through my adventures in adulting.
- 20% reactions to the news, pop culture, etc.
- 15% reflections on my personal life.
That seems like the recipe for a pretty sustainable blog for a guy like me. Who knows, maybe I’ll end up using it completely differently. Then I can look back on this post and laugh when I’m an old and gray blog veteran.
